I got an email from my god fearin brother today. That is stupid shit, but that isn't the topic. Talking with my wife about it, she stated he is very presumptuous.

My response was just a reiteration of how I see religious people as a whole, at least those that wear their 'faith' on their sleeves. Such people live their lives being presumptuous, because that is what they expect from others. Stating their 'faith' at every opportunity invites many presumptions that may or may not be warranted. The big one is morality. A person proclaiming submission to a supernatural authority claims silently for themselves the highest of moral virtues. They assume for themselves all the qualities that are deemed 'good' by their religious affiliates, and act on the expectation of acceptance. It is the veneer that allows such people to assume others see only their best, that allows them to be themselves beneath a guise of assumed good intentions.

Although I don't like analogies, I use one to show how I interpret these things. Everyone has a face they show the world, that is different than their true face. (My brother explained this to me, it's ironic that it's validity explains some of the hypocrisy of religion.) This face is a barrier that hides from the rest of the world the true inner self, and the 'thickness' of that barrier depends on the true character of the person. The worse the character, the thicker the barrier.

Those that inject religion into their relationships with others do so because it is their way of shoring up the facade. Thus, frequency with which the religious inject their supernatural philosophy is directly proportional to the facade that needs to be sustained, and an indication of the questionable character lurking beneath.
