Finished O'Rourke's book on Adam Smith, and I'm still working on the other. This is because I spend more time in my car actually listening than I do at home. Started American Promethius by Martin Sherwin and Kai Bird. Keeps my attention for the most part. The authors tell about his early years, which led me to look up The Society for Ethical Culture. It has been redubbed American Ethical Union, and they have a web site. They tout it as a religion, but state that it is not a religion in the traditional sense. I had to find it though, and almost blew it off before I did. Interesting site.
But back to the book about Smith. Wasn't as informative as I thought it would be, but it kept my attention enough to finish it. Another interesting coincidence though with the Onegoodmove blog, Norm put up another post on the economy, this time about how 'redistribution' was being thrown around by the GOP. He quotes from the book, something about 'house rents', which was discussed by O'Rourke. Also, someone commented, asking about specific examples of wealth distribution to the rich, or rather examples of how the wealthy direct the flow to their own pockets. I left a comment in response, but I could have also included the obvious fact that the wealthy are bribing Congress, legally in the form of lobbyists, to legislate in favor of the wealthy. This is an obvious answer to the inquiry, and no sensible person could deny the lobby industry is just bribery legitimized.
