There are two projects to complete this semester for the program. One is a paper on a specific topic concerning the radiographer's job. Another is a presentation to the class on a specific pathology associated with radiographic studies. The second will be easy, this first is causing me no litle apprehension.

I am interested in the dose of radiation attributed to the various modalities, and what we know about them, or don't know. I'm struggling for a theme. I thought maybe a paper wouldn't do, that the information I was interested in could be much more efficiently presented in some type of display, which we can do in lieu of a paper. My main concern in this area is that we don't know enough about the effects of radiation, small doses acquired over time, the dose that usually comes with CAT scans. My idea is that we are basing our efforts on knowledge gained from large doses at once, from studies of disasters like the bombs in Japan and the reactor at Chernobyl, and assuming what we know will translate to medical radiation used today. My idea, I guess, is that it might not, and we are proceeding with way too many studies not understanding how it is really going to affect the population in general.

just some thoughts.
