If you're Christian, this movie is completely against our religion. With the fighting of 'evil' that goes on in this movie, the movie is referring to 'evil' as the Christians who follow Christ. This movie is completely out of wack and should be banned. This is a very racist movie, so please avoid it.
What sick movie maker came up with this drivel? Not only is it a bad movie, but it's the worse type of anti-God garbage aimed at young children since Disney started using gay actors in cartoon features. Just a real bad idea. Typical Hollywood Anti-God Movie...Must be XMAS. This movie is an inexcusable atheistic rant which plays itself off as a children's movie. Amazing! If you feel you MUST go see this movie then buy a ticket for Ratatouee and walk into this one...but please don't take children. The subject matter is simply wrong.
I have been born and raised Christian. I believe in God and the Bible. This movie may not seem all that bad on the outside, but when the creator of this movie believes that Christianity is a crime and that his beliefes rule all I believe that there is a problem with that. This movie was toned down a bit from the books but I would still ask for boycott.
Shame on those that are Christian for finding nothing wrong with this movie. A Cristian who thinks it is okay to call this a great movie obviously has no idea what the movie is about. Bravo to the Christians who realize it is wrong to applause a movie whos books show God being killed in the end.
To me I would not suggest this movie to anyone. It is just a way yet again for those who believe in nothing to smite those of us that do!!!!!!!!!!!
This next one is especially venomous...
As a follower and bon servant of Jesus Christ my Lord, The Golden Compass is an obvious attack on the Christian and Catholic church. Two characters, who are practically Adam and Eve, are trying to kill Yahweh, or God. If any of you have ever heard of The Da Vinci Code, this is what the Golden Compass' point, to Attack the Christain churches and The Catholic churches. If you Christians are watching movies like the Golden Compass, and get hooked and don't come back to God before the Rapture, you're dead, one way ticket to the Lake of Fire. Philip Pullman said to an interviewer in an article, "My books are about killing God." The guy who wrote The Golden Compass, The Amber Spyglass and The Subtle knife, Philip Pullman, if you knew is an atheist. If you want to know if its true, fine, 1 way ticket to Hell.
Then there is English major here. Too fuckin funny....

This funny, this commentary was written by someone that was supposed to have read the book. I believe the 'demons' they talk about in the movie is spelled "daemon".
In this movie, good is portrayed as bad, and bad as good. Its aim at children and adolescents is horrific in the damage that it can do to developing minds and thought patterns. The author of the written trilogy certainly intends to "kill God" with his words. Do the filmmakers have the same objective? Certainly, their intent is to use the big hook in the movie to sell the even more repulsive 2nd and 3rd installments, plus sending untold numbers to the bookstores in search of these blasphemeous scripts. Good acting and, yes, Oscar-worthy visuals only sweeten the lure.
Demons are portrayed as good, even sometimes cuddly pet-like animal extensions of the person. Witches are the rescuers. The fall of Adam and Eve (mentioned by Mrs. Coulter) is good because it frees us to knowledge. You become a zombie if you are separated from your demon.
Authority (Yahweh God in the trilogy) is bad, a deceiver who prevents you from being free. The Magisterium (the Christian church) is portrayed as being entirely composed of evil connivers.
Many who have watched the movie, perhaps even many of the reviewers on Yahoo!, may not recognize the significance of what they are experiencing. The seeds sown here may grow deep roots.
The author has said he would like to bring about the "death of God". While there is no chance of dooming his own Creator, he can certainly bring doom to those who naively buy into his books and films. Better for him that a millstone be tied around his neck...
