So here we go again, more essay shit. It turns out there are clues in the guidance the instructor handed out last class period. 'a thesis that identifies the claim about class, race, gender....'
Hell, that's easy. In this story the author compares the ways Victor deals with his burdens of race and class. On the one hand, he's of mixed descent, but looks white. On the other, he knows he's 'lower class', trying to pass himself off as belonging to a higher class. I want to work into the essay how the black lawyer is the ideal Victor could have attained had he the fortitude and sense to make the right decisions early on. Haven't found a way to do that yet, but I'm still working on the first draft. It's taking longer than I want it to, but then everything I have to do is taking longer than I'd like.
My wife and I were talking about the labs I have for chemistry and physiology. They take a lot of time, 3 hours of class time each, with numerous hours either studying for quizzes and practicals, or doing reports. All for 2 lousy credits. My wife says I'm probably spending too much time on them, and I guess she has a point. If time I'm spending on labs is taking away from work in classes where the credits hold more weight with my GPA, then it's too much time spent.
But back to the essay. After reading her guidance it's obvious where the story is going and what the author is trying to say about society, race and class. Now I just have to find a good way to put the ideas across. Here's where it gets rough, creativity is definitely not a quality I have an overabundance of....
