Have finished quite a few books in the past few months, some I'd like to talk about.
1941: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus by Charles Mann.
Interesting take on American history. If you are serious about the subject, you might find the book interesting. The amount of information he tried to cover made it hard to follow, and at times it was more work to pay attention than I was willing to put out. Still, I got through it by searching for more information on some of the topics he touched on, and know that if I ever needed to look at the subject again I would look to it for more information.
Three Cups of Deceit by Jon Krakauer.
The author talks about many aspects of Greg Mortenson's activities while doing his humanitarian work that led up to the foundation of the Central Asia Institute, and points out many inconsistencies between Mortenson's account in Three Cups of Tea and the author's own investigations. Interesting if you've read Three Cups of Tea, or know anything about Mortenson.
Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.
Popular book right now, movie in the works. Heard about it, did the audio book, found it a good read. Suggested it to some people, and everyone likes it. Since, the author has sequels out, and sequels always bother me. This one is no exception, as I've already started it, a book called Catching Fire, and put it aside for now. The book is intended for a young adult audience, and seems to have drawn a following similar to Harry Potter and Twilight. In the middle of the second book the author sends the heroine back into 'The Arena', so I'll wait to hear what other adults have to say that will probably finish it. I have too many books in the wings to waste time on a repeat of the first volume.
More to come.
