God Wastes Miracle On Running Catch In Outfield
It's funny, but the scary part of this little barb is that some people believe 'miracles' are a force to be counted on, and worse, believe the mere mention of a miracle or its supposed origin is enough to influence another's actions.
For instance, there is a woman works in the same department I do, who is all but worthless. She has a terrible work ethic and the bare minimum of competence. Yet she gets smiles and nods because she is a 'nice' person, and is willing to invoke superstition at the drop of a hat if she feels the least bit threatened. Most everyone else showed a little passive-aggressiveness recently however. She wanted a day off during the holidays that she was scheduled to work, so she put it out in an email that she was looking to switch. Normally, she would simply call in sick and be done with it. This time she used a different tack which failed miserably. In an email she expressed a belief in miracles after asking if anyone would take her shift, and insisted in the next email she still believed when there was no response to the first. The lack of response was a resounding contradiction by everyone else. Collectively they are able to hide behind their anonymity and show her how they really feel.
The problem with this is it will not change her behavior, because she can convince herself of virtually any other reason for the fact that she ultimately had to work that day.
