There is a story about a California clerk refusing to do her job of presiding over marriages because she doesn't believe gays should be allowed to marry. This is on a par with the pharmacists that try to refuse prescriptions. I particularly like the comments to the story in the local paper; or rather, find them interesting, and distressing.

One person wants to know why polygamy is ok if gay marriage is supposed to be. Of course I just had to leave my $0.02....

One commenter asked why polygamy isn't ok if homosexual marriage is to be, referring to the latest debacle with the LDS community in TX. It isn't the polygamy with them so much as the girls and young women that are forced into marriages with men they did not choose. I would also venture to guess that polygamy is outlawed because some members of the male of our species would not be able to control themselves. Legal polygamy would be an excuse to take advantage of women by forcing them into relationships they do not want.
