Micheal Moore was on CNN yesterday and today, Wolf Blitzer ran a report by their medical correspondent, who criticized some of what Moore's movie says of course. He claims the piece is fair because at the end he says he agrees with Moore to a certain extent, and says the movie raises awareness.

We live in a free market economy. This system has produced people that will find ways to amass great wealth. Whether we use the system we are using now, or health care is universalized and administered by the government, people are going to have to pay for health care, and pay a lot, and those that are making a buck off it now will find a way to make a buck off it in the future. Profit will be the driving force, as it always is, and it would take smart people working in the government to keep the costs and profits reasonable. That won't happen because most politicians are working for the money rather than the people and too willing to spend our money on foolish things, and finding ways to get health care down to a reasonable cost and still make everyone happy is not and never will be profitable.

It is a basic flaw of the free market ideal, which assumes honest people are looking out for their self interests in a way that is responsible to society. It doesn't work that way because it assumes greed and integrity at the same time, which is contradictory. Integrity is supposed to rule, the system is supposed to keep greed at bay, but of course our system is a prime example of how something goes wrong with the implementation.

Anyway, Larry King said costs of the war is a separate issue than the health care system they were discussing. It isn't really, it is an indication of the priorities of those that made it happen. They are related, if only by showing where our attention is focused.

I have to get ready for class.....
