Ok, look. Is the world really going to be a better place if we have access to satellite photos of New Orleans post Katrina? Who the fuck cares?!
Apparently, some moron thinks there is some kind of conspiracy at Google to 'airbrush' history.
The House Committee on Science and Technology's subcommittee on investigations and oversight on Friday asked Google Inc. Chairman and CEO Eric Schmidt to explain why his company is using the outdated imagery.
The subcommittee cited an Associated Press report on the images.
``Google's use of old imagery appears to be doing the victims of Hurricane Katrina a great injustice by airbrushing history,'' subcommittee chairman Brad Miller, D-N.C., wrote in a letter to Schmidt.
Brad Miller seems to be out of the loop. If he used Google Earth at all he would quickly note that MOST of the images they use are outdated. They are clear about it, if you want current images you have to PAY. The images they post for everyone to see are FREE!!! How the fuck can someone expect anyone at Google to give a rats ass what people expect when the shit they offer is free?
My take? Some pompous asses would like to draw attention to themselves, to show that they are doing something to help the hurricane victims. The only thing they accomplish is to show the world what they are NOT doing, which is any kind of good. Why would any reasonable person, in a position to actually do something, be wasting their efforts with such bombastic theater? How many man hours have been used getting this important 'word' out? Why isn't this time spent asking themselves if there is any part they can play in reducing our fucking deficit?
