Lots of things going on here. First, I just got a call from the school saying the Linux networking class has been canceled. Bummer. They cut it due to lack of interest. This was an online class, not sure how low enrollment can affect one of those. I know it takes time to administer, but i also know these are cake for the instructors.
Anyway, we put some bookshelves in the back room, and we decided to put pergo in. So, I pulled the carpet up, and today put it on Craigslist for someone to pick up. I got emails almost right away. A guy came by this morning and picked it up. Interesting, how fast that worked.
So, I was looking at other things on Craigslist. There is a forum headed '1099', and I wasn't sure what it was for so I looked. This was a post I found interesting.....
1099 Advantage?? < > 01/05 15:37:37
I am running the meal plan for my fraternity, and we just hired new cooks. I need to cut costs (e.g. taxes, and payroll services) and was wondering if it would be a bad idea to 1099 our chefs. The two of them would form a partnership and both be principles so that way there is no need for Workman's Comp (unless they want to pay for it). I'm wondering if there are any hidden fees in 1099 them, would I need to have a liability insurance policy on them that otherwise would be covered if they were W-2 employees instead, besides having them fill out a 1099, do I need to do anything else to establish them as contractors, and when I cut checks, can I address them to the individuals or would they need to set up an account in the name of their partnership? If any one has any advice on the situation, it would be greatly appreciated.
This is what is wrong with this country. This guy, obviously in college, is learning how things work here in America, and trying to apply it. He wants to stiff the cooks that he has hired to save a few bucks. I looked up this 1099 stuff, it is for self employed people. This guy thinks he can tell these people to start their own business, then contract to him. That is essentially what he wants to do, so they can hassle with mundane shit like insurance and stuff, and paying their taxes. The more I think about it, the more upset I get.....
