I’m always checking out the readers letters in the local paper. A letter in today’s edition caught my eye. I’ve seen the sentiment expressed before, but it just today hit me as the main reason I dislike the current administration so much. The writer is responding to an article written by someone else that talks about how people are too critical of the administration….

The writer (of the article) says, "There are political opportunists who seek to undermine the fight for freedom by second-guessing the leadership of President Bush."

Isn't that what freedom is? The freedom to question and analyze our politicians and not just stand glassy-eyed singing "Hail to the Chief"?

When people criticize this administration, the response is either renouncement of the critic as some kind of evil heretic, or there is no response whatsoever. They talk their game as if people are out of their minds if they don’t drag the line, then act as if everyone is behind them in spite of the criticism, which causes those that are mildly skeptical of what they hear to doubt their own sensibilities. Some of these people even go out of their way to ridicule others that voice their skepticism, thinking they are doing their civic duty. What they don’t realize is that their civic duty is to support the critic’s right to voice their concern even if they don’t necessarily agree with it.

This is one reason some church organizations rub me the wrong way. It isn’t the organizations themselves but the people in key positions that decide they know what’s best for everyone else, those people that spend their time doing ‘the lord’s work’. These people are too stupid to eradicate the mundane from their lives, so they work themselves into other’s hoping for a little excitement. ‘The lord’s work’ is their shield, and the barrier is invoked at every opportunity, which produces nothing more than a drone reciting ritualistic jargon, the real meaning of which is lost on them. This is why Bush has been leaning so heavy on the theistic stick, or why Carl Rove has him leaning on it. It produces the perfect mindset in people to accept the drivel he is dishing out.

Damn, that got just a little harsh toward the end. I’m usually a nice guy….. really…….
