For the poll on CNN.com today, the question was whether or not the nomination of a supreme court justice should hinge on his or her stance on abortion. It's a no brainer. A supreme court justice nomination should be based on an individuals character. Does he lie? Is he fair? Does he realize that his judgment shouldn't be biased by personal beliefs?
Let's put it this way. We wouldn't want a supreme judge that is racist, that thinks all Hispanics in the country should be dropped out in the ocean. There are plenty in this country that truly believe this would be a good thing, even some that openly espouse the notion. But anyway, back to the poll. 35% of the people responding to the poll feel it should be an issue, a nominee's stance on abortion rights. These are people, I assume on both sides of the controversy, that obviously think it should make a difference.
The issues should be discussed and decided within the supreme court, not as a political pawn to decide who holds the office. That people could even think otherwise is an indication of the sorry state of ignorance some in this country have become quagmired in.
