Nothing to catch up on, haven't been listening to any books, just Teaching Company lectures on western civ.

Been doing some interesting things though. I was looking through the Internet and the newsgroups and came across the name Lewis Black. The guy is a popular comedian, though I've never heard of him, and he's playing in Tucson. I mentioned it to my wife, she says, "Hey, that's one of so&so's favorites."

We ended up getting tickets. Someone had posted a bunch of stuff from this guy in a comedy newsgroup and I listened to some of it. None of it was political, and I got the impression that he's been on a political kick lately so listening to his recorded stuff wouldn't ruin the live show. I was right for the most part, he did some of his routine stuff, but most of it was about stupid shit in current events. He was ok, but our experience was diminished by a couple of instances. First, he had some guy open for him, and there were 5 younger people sitting in the row in front of us and four seats over. They were making a lot of noise amongst themselves, trying to get attention I guess, totally unrelated to the show. I said just a bit loud... asked my wife rather, if she wanted me to tell them to 'shut the fuck up'. I would've. They were getting louder, and I decided to look for one of the security guys playing the role of usher as people were coming in. I figured I'd get one of them to handle it rather than myself, it was their job after all. I didn't get a chance. As I was scanning behind me for one of the red shirts, some guy four rows in front of us stood up and told them to knock it off. They shut right up. I guess I'm more patient than he was.

Then during the show there was some jerk on the end of our row that had to laugh at every punchline. Sometimes he wouldn't even wait for the punchline. That wasn't the problem, it was the fact that he felt he must do it so half the place knew he thought this stuff was hilarious. You know the type, the person that has to make a show of laughing to draw attention to the fact that they are having a good time. It detracts from the experience, it really does.

While we were there we caught wind of a performance that Bill Maher was giving soon in Phoenix. My wife found it on the Internet, and we will be seeing him in two weeks.

Then there was last night. There's a comedy club here in town called Laff's. We've been there one other time, and the guy was so funny I could hardly breath at times. He kind of ruined me for comedians, cause I've not seen anyone as funny as him since. Even Robin Williams on the DVD I got for xmas wasn't as funny. Anyway, we went last night with some friends, and the comedians were ok, but still not as funny as the first time we were there. We were unfortunate enough to be in the vicinity of a laughing drunk though, another person that laughed just a bit too loudly. Her laugh at least sounded genuine, but it still had a diminishing effect on the whole experience, at least for me.

Damn, nothing but bitchin!!! Is there anything good I can say about anything? The weather is nice in the morning this time of year... my wife is home for a few days... we had our friends over last night and the house is relatively clean... :-)
