This is how I waste my time lately....
From this post here, I get this statement.
"Nowadays, if you’re not on Facebook, it’s possible you don’t actually exist."
I read this line and immediately sensed the possibility of a breakdown in reason. Still, after reading all but the interview of the linked post, I did some checking.
World population - 6,790,062,216
Current Adult Population in the World: 14-64 years: 63.72%
http://chartsbin.com/view/clk
6,790,062,216 x .6372 = 4,326,627,644
Facebook users - More than 400 million active users, according to their website. (roughly 425?)
http://www.facebook.com/press/info.php?statistics
425,000,000 x 100
--------------------------
4,326,627,644
(The equation for the percentage of the world's population using Facebook)
Answer - < 10%
Although I probably shouldn't, I would presume this percentage is slightly higher in the US and other developed countries. But then consider that there are some people have more than one ID on FB, the number of users spending a lot of their time playing Mafia Wars and similar mindless pastimes, how many people would that leave that are actually using FB as their prime repository of contact info?
I'm not the only one senselessly wasting my time on nonsense.
