I'm already tired of hearing about how we have our first black president. All the grandstanding only proves that racism is alive and well. And the commentators, these are sposed to be smart people, people who should be aware of how overzealous proclamations about Obama's skin color cannot hide some of the disingenuousness of it. I think it would have been phenomenal if Obama would have said at the beginning of his speech something to the effect of, "cut the nonsense, the most important thing is not the color of my skin, but my being President of this nation. Let's focus on the nation itself, not a nation with a black man as President."

Everyone is falling all over themselves to say something of significance on 'this historical day'. It is annoying, this reference to 'history'. It would be nice to get beyond it.
