I believe it was on the Crooks and Liars I got to see a clip from the Daily Show. In it, all about the Stearns debacle. Jon showed some snippets of a speech Bush made. In that speech, he made a comment concerning the tax refunds we were going to get. He said that the $600 was going to "offset the loss of wealth if the value of your home has gone down."

What are Bush's speech writers thinking? They MUST still believe that the masses will blindly parrot the mantra, which is evidently not the case, at least not as much as it was when he was elected. People pay more attention... or rather, more people are paying attention, if the number of voters are any indication. I haven't looked at any hard numbers, so I could be wrong about that.

Notice though, that I didn't blame Bush. He's just an ignoramus, listening to others. But on another note, everyone seems to be talking of Obama's speech. I read most of it, it's pretty long. It was basically a statement concerning all the racial overtones of his candidacy, and all the people bringing it up by talking about his race and his association with that church. After one reading it seems he is using the whole situation as a platform for an historical presence. The big issues aren't the racial undertones, at least that isn't driving this election cycle. It's the economy, or the looming recession that may or may not truly happen; and the war and the deficit, that are of course all intertwined. It cheapens anything Obama might say concerning race, which is unfortunate.....
