When I should be studying, I am instead listening again to Hitchens' book God is not Great. A quote from one of the first few chapters...

One must state it plainly. Religion comes from the period of human prehistory, where nobody - not even the mighty Democritus who concluded that all matter was made from atoms - had the smallest idea what was going on. It comes from the bawling and fearful infancy of our species, and is a babyish attempt to meet our inescapable demand for knowledge (as well as for comfort, reassurance, and other infantile needs).

On another note, there is a comet called Holmes (17P). A few weeks ago something happened that caused it to expel much of its mass, causing debris to expand so much so that seemed to be as big as the sun. It was visible to the naked eye, but I didn't hear about it until yesterday. It isn't so much any more, visible without aids. I was able to find it with the telescope though. Like dust on the lens it seems now. There is also plenty of activity as far as meteors go. I can go outside and look up, and be assured of seeing at least a few within a minute or so.
