Why is it when one person does something stupid, someone else starts pontificating about restricting the freedoms of everyone else.

Some guy named Tom Plate got his opinion in the news because he used to be used to be the editor of the LA Times editorials. I'm not sure how that makes him qualified to start a bandwagon that would ultimately change the constitution.

Here's something else. The piece was on CNN.com, and with my cynicism in high gear, I noticed they had a piece advocating the other side of this issue, keeping the gun laws as they are. What I find interesting, and which in my opinion displays how those at CNN, those that get the content on the Web anyway, feel about the mess. The opposing piece was written by Ted Nugent. Ted Nugent is a has been rock star, of the Cat Scratch Fever type. Journalistic outlets are supposed to be objective, but the subtleties come through if you're willing to think and look a little. This is my opinion, but I believe this shows how CNN swings.

There are two opinions, voiced by two different people. One working as an editor for a well known paper, or used to, and the other used to be a rock star. Ordinarily I would put my money on the editor. But I don't agree with him at all, and I have good reason not to. Not because I carry a gun, or own one, because I don't, but because I feel responsible citizens should be able to, because millions of responsible people do and it has worked fine. My point here is CNN is subtly pushing strict gun laws by using the opinions of a 'respected editor' and a 'rock star'. Who would you believe if you didn't know any better.

You'll never hear an advocate of strict gun control compare the US to Canada. They will only make their case by stating that if their are no guns there will be less crime, and supporting arguments are just that it makes sense. Canadian laws are similar to ours, but the statistics relating to crimes involving guns don't compare at all. Canada is a very good example that supports the assertion that there really isn't a correlation between gun laws and crime. Gun control advocates have no real evidence for their claims, yet we do have evidence that just the opposite view is true.
