Today is the last day I help UPS. I'm glad it's over, my fuckin ankles are killin me. That is the result of the truck, the entryway was almost knee high off the ground. I found it very difficult to step off gently... ok, I couldn't do it, it was frustrating to try and baby the ankles, so I have been getting off as fast as I can without too much pain and running to leave the packages.

I don't care what UPS says about how they operate, they really don't care about the condition a package arrives at its destination in. I've seen both the drivers and the loaders in action, and with the policies in place concerning how fast workers should work, package condition goes out the window. It takes time to handle packages with care, and they just don't have the time, and don't want to pay extra workers.

Employment at UPS starts at the bottom. They hire people for the holiday season, and offer a position for the people they want to keep. If you stay, you are paid for manual labor, getting raises quickly, and there are loaders that make over $15 an hour. Driver positions are filled from within, and they make over $20 an hour, with senior drivers making close to $30. Drivers work long hours too, they are paid to take out a load that should take them over 9 hours to complete, and are expected to come back after 10 hours, with an automatic lunch break included. That 9th hour is overtime, and it's every day. So, they are well compensated, but that doesn't keep them from being disgruntled, some of them still don't like it. Those are the people that would be disgruntled anywhere they work though.
