There have been a couple of books I finished. The Darwin Conspiracy is the most recent, by John Darnton. Very good book, along the lines of Da Vinci Code, without all the life threatening espionage. If you like fiction as a way to learn good shit, this one is excellent for some things about Darwin.
Before that it was The Greatest Story Ever Sold by Frank Rich. Interesting, but of course heavily biased, and of course most of it is common knowledge. I like going through books like this and picking out the skewed assertions. For example, a sentence that starts out 'Studies have shown...' is very suspect as to how credible the evidence really is, and therefor how much it actually supports an author's statements or theories. It is amazing to me how much people use shit like that.
There may have been one or two others, but I'm not sure. when I finished Darwin I had nothing on the mp3 player that I hadn't listened to except for the bible. So, I started it. I've downloaded audio versions, and will trudge through it until I get through it all. That is the plan anyway. I did have Confessions with me, but I find at times it puts me to sleep.
I went over the list I started a long time ago, of books I've read. It is nowhere near complete, and after looking at it I realize just how much. I've done a lot of Stephen Baxter and none of them are included. Then there's the older sci-fi of Clarke, Asimov and Heinlein that still isn't on the list. I started the list to keep track of shit I've done, so I wouldn't waste time starting something, only to realize I've already read it. This has happened, and still does because I can't seem to keep the list as I planned.
