Ok, continued research on this issue is making me look at this differently. In my last post, just a few hours ago, I said basically people need to wake up and smell the coffee, drink it, but go for a walk or swim - something to get off the couch. Not in so many words, but that's the gist. My point was that people are too worried about finding the easy way to health and fitness, and diet is only a small part. Important, but small compared to activity.

I've just come across something that seems to suggest the general public consensus thinks the way I do. This is from a report from something called the Pew Research Center....

The survey finds that most Americans, including those who say they are overweight, agree that personal behavior – rather than genetic disposition or marketing by food companies – is the main reason people are overweight. In particular, the public says that a failure to get enough exercise is the most important reason, followed by a lack of willpower about what to eat. About half the public also says that the kinds of foods marketed at restaurants and grocery stores are a very important cause, and roughly a third say the same about the effect of genetics and heredity.

Now I have to see what I can do to find out how credible this source is. If it is credible, then my question is why all the hype in the media about regulation of food products in schools, and regulation of the food industry in general, when most Americans see themselves as failing in this regard. If this is truly what the average American believes, regulations aren't going to solve these problems....
