I was watching a debate on the Internet with congressional candidates for the House. Giffords, Graf, Nolan and Quick. All of them played dumb when asked about Colby's involvement with the Foley incident. They said they don't know how things happened or who knew what when.
They got around to North Korea. They all said work with Kim. At first though Graf deferred to others with more responsibility. He said that if it comes to a one on one situation that Korea is on the short end of the stick if they want to provoke any kind of conflict. I have to say the people asking the questions did put him on the hot seat more than the others. They didn't pounce, but that was probably because it would not have been professional. So, they followed up on Graf to get to specifics, something they did not do with the others, and asked him if we should speak directly to North Korea. He said that decision was not within his pay grade to make.
We used to use that line as a joke when I was in the military. After that he all but said the US should go to war, should bring war to North Korea if need be to bring Kim under control. The pressure was on, obviously, and the other candidates must have sensed it, because Nolan broke in and saved Graf.
First of all, I don't believe Graf knows what he's talking about. He said he trusts the judgment of the commander in chief. The constitution clearly states the decision for war rests with Congress. To say that he leaves it to the President shows an extreme lack of understanding of how the process is supposed to work as laid out in the constitution. That in itself is scary. However, it is obvious the person asking the questions was honing in on the republican about issues that the public feels the republican administration and congress have failed miserably to deal with. Graf knew it, and so did the other candidates, as was evident when Nolan broke in and said you can't foresee how things are going to turn out and it is futile to try and guess how things will turn out in a step by step process.
