The only thing we have for television entertainment is VERY basic cable and a DVD player. Basic cable is a few local channels and some others that Comcast will throw in cause they are nice, for just $11. I think we get 15 altogether, and unfortunately Comedy Central is not one of the channels Comcast gives away. Why? Because we use cable for internet access and don’t watch TV. I would watch Comedy Central though, specifically The Daily Show.
The people at Comedy Central are nice too though. You can go online and watch Daily Show excerpts right off the internet, and it looks to me they show just about everything.
So, I was doing this the other day, and Jon Stewart shows Congressional hearings on violent video games. It is funny stuff, but also brings attention to just how out of touch and stupid these people are.
Find it, it’s funny!! And scary; scary that these people are involved in running our country. Go to comedycentral.com, click on the Daily Show window, the one that says watch videos. A window will come up, and there is a button on the right that says ‘view all videos from this show’. Find ‘Player Haters’, and watch the video. It really is scary.
Here are the scary parts…
Rep Lee Terry - As a father of 3 young boys, 11, 8, and 6 who are avid gamers, I’m very concerned about the content included in the games…
Jon jumps in – and as I stand there watching them play these violent games, helpless to do anything about it I can’t help but wonder, where the system has failed.
Funny, but he makes a point as well. Doesn’t this asshole have control over what his kids are doing?! To be fair, kids find a way to play away from the home if it is denied them at home.
The best, or worst, depending on your point of view, came later in the skit.
Rep Joe Barton – I’ll have to confess Mr Chairman that I am also a video game player. I have worked my way up to Civilization four. I haven’t yet been able to beat it, but I at least understand the fundamentals of it.
This made me think this whole escapade is nothing but a circle jerk. Jon Stewart calls them ‘out of touch jackasses’.
Ok, the scary stuff…
Rep Joseph Pitts – It’s safe to say that a wealthy kid from the suburbs can play Grand Theft Auto or similar games without turning to a life of crime, but a poor kid who lives in a neighbourhood where people really do steal cars or deal drugs or shoot cops might not be so fortunate. There’s almost certainly a child somewhere in
Jon jumps in - Maybe he buys a gun
steals a car
tries to run
but he doesn’t get far
(then sings) In the ghettoooo
It's amazing how he can keep is cool and do the funny shit, instead of going off the deep end by ranting about the stuff. This guy Joseph Pitts is trying to sound like an advocate of the 'poor kids' in the country, but the only thing that is clearly evident is his low opinion of people he deems to be inferior. Wealthy kids can play without turning to a life a crime? Get fucking real!!! This is why Jon calls them jackasses. Jon also mentions Columbine, and the kids that went on a rampage there. Mr Pitts is insinuating that wealthy kids don't commit crimes. Out of touch? Just a little! Yes the guy's a jerk, and he doesn't even realize it. This reminds me of something Vonnegut said in one of his books. I think it was him... 'Rich people are just poor people with money'.
