Been a while, not much to say but talk about the latest books I've been into. Not sure where I left off, I'll start with Shelby Foote's Civil War. It's not like other civil war books, not that I've ever read any, but it's three volumes long. I've listened to three quarters of the first, and had to put it aside. Very interesting, but it would be more interesting if I knew more about what went on. Most of the time I had a hard time figuring out whose side they were fighting for, the people he was describing. There are so many minor things that went on during the civil war that the lay person, me, doesn't know about. The book is hard for me to follow because of this. It was better when he talks about Manassas, McClellan, Grant and Lincoln, because those are the big names, and it was easier to follow. I do plan on finishing, not sure when though, maybe I should do some more biographies, it was the Lincoln book that got me interested.
After that I listened to Interview With A Vampire, on the suggestion of a friend. Pretty good, a little slow at times. Anne Rice likes to elaborate needlessly, I guess the more words she uses the more money she makes. After that it was Stephen King's new book, Cell. Ok, coulda been better, the ending sucks. He never explains how things actually happened, what caused everything. The characters had a bunch of theories, and I guess we are supposed to infer they got things right.
I'm in the middle of Anne Rice's first Witch book. Better than the Vampire book, though much longer I think. I'm also trying to struggle through Smith's Theory of Moral Sentiments. Hard to read because it was written so long ago, the writing from back then is very different. They weren't much into brevity and concise explanations.
