Nothing much going on here, work, sleep, work. They've got me working lots of hours, taking advantage of the fact that I don't have classes at the moment. It wouldn't have been quite so bad if they wouldn't have fired a guy.
Hmmmm, I have yet to finish the last post, I meant to comment on the article, but didn't have the time. In the meantime, I've finished the book called Jefferson's War. Very informative, and humbling. Seems I should have known a little more about the subject matter, because it was the war that saw Presley O'Bannon a hero. Who was that? He was the first hero of the Marine Corps. Being a former Marine, supposedly priding myself on my knowledge of Marine Corps history, I should have known that. I did, in a roundabout way, but didn't know enough details to put it all together. Anyway, very good book. Basically, the Muslim states of Tripoli, Tunis and Algiers were the bandits of the high seas, or at least the Mediterrenean, from the 1800s back 400 years. They demanded payment from everyone that used the sea for trade, and they paid!! Jefferson didn't like it, so he started in motion events that led the United States into war with the Muslim leaders, and after events that took 15 years to unfold, nobody was paying tribute.
Enough of that. I'm still in the middle of Men in Black, and it's very interesting. I like to pick out which statements are opinion, and which fact. Sometimes it's difficult. Either way, it's very informative.
I have found a new software toy. Lately there have been a bunch of Linux distributions that allow one to boot a computer and run Linux from a CD. I found one that will boot from a USB memory stick, and it is the first I've found that will automatically get on the internet through my network with no effort on my part. It's called Damn Small Linux, or DSL for short. I downloaded it, burned the CD, booted my laptop with it, and installed it on my USB drive. No problems or fuss, it boots from the memory stick, as long as the computer will do such a thing. Most newer computers will. It won't be long before we are carrying around our computer in our pocket, ready to use the first dumb workstation we can plug into. No need for a hard drive even... with a big enough memory stick, everything one needs can be installed on it. It will be the thing to do if true portability is needed. I'm using it right now on my desktop to write this. It won't access the wireless card on my laptop, so I can't get on the internet with it yet. I'm very good at following instructions though, and I know there are some out there that will help me get that straight.
