Children of all ages have to behave and use their indoor voices.
That's what it said, and some people are upset of course. The place has drawn a lot of attention over the sign, and I'll bet a lot of business on account of the free nationwide publicity. If I had to guess, knowing what I know about Americans today, I would say there are a lot of people giving the owner flak over the sign. I was surprised to learn, according to the several accounts I read, that the majority of the response was supportive.
Huh? That doesn't sound like the America I know and love. There should be people crowded at the door ready to gouge the dude's eyes out. Where the hell are the 'mothers of America' when you need them to give someone a good tongue lashing?
Maybe, just maybe, people are getting fed up with catering to the children. I can see where a parent would feel the need to cater to their own children, but the parents that don't have a clue are the ones that want everyone catering to their child. They somehow seem to think the child is entitled to such treatment by everyone and their brother.
I don't think so. I think the children should be acting up at home if the parents feel they should be able to let loose. Frankly, I don't like it when our kids let loose in this house. Anyway, here is what a couple of people were quoted as saying in the new articles I've been reading....
Too often, though, our cultural emphasis on freedom and individual rights gets taken to the extreme, becoming "a kind of selfish entitlement that undermines our ability to function as a civil community," says George Scarlett, a professor of child development at Tufts University in Boston.
"The rights of any one individual — whether he or she be a parent, child or stranger — do not negate the rights of others."
