Well it seems my resume isn't good enough to get me into an interview with anyone. I'm not surprised, I haven't put that much work into it. They didn't like my answers at the oral board for the police dept. I was supposed to be completely honest, and I was. The questions that did me in were "What have you done to prepare for the job?" and "What kind of community service have you done in the past 3 years?" I told them I hadn't done anything to prepare, because I hadn't. I found out about the test just a few days before taking it, then I got the information packet on Saturday, and was expected to have it all filled out by Monday afternoon. They wanted all kinds of information that I didn't have, and I was supposed to go back at least 15 years for stuff. Anyway, so I also told them I had done no volunteer work, and I just got blank stares. They never asked why, and I would have told them that I was busy retiring, moving my family, getting settled in a new city, and doing a year at the university. See, now if I were quick, which I am not, I would have told them being a bus driver was community service, because they don't pay nearly enough for what you have to put up with during the time you are driving. I would have also told them my military service was the ultimate community service, and that I was taking a breather.

They didn't ask though, and I didn't offer. I figured they could figure shit like that out for themselves, they had my information packet right there, and I was also thinking that stuff would come out after they asked questions about that as they said they were going to. I knew I was through when they ushered my out of the room before talking about it though

Anyway, enough of that. I've been taking time to get things done around here. The garage needed work, as well as the back. I've been perusing the want ads and sent my resume to a few places, but nothing really interests me all that much. My wife is less supportive of me finding a job, she is getting used to me doing everything around the house. Fuck that, I need to be doing shit outside the house. Plus, I have no money. Well, I have money, but it's not enough to cover my half of the bills, and I'm loathe to ask my wife for any money. I don't NEED any, but extra cash would be nice cause I'd like to be putting extra away, as well as put extra money toward the mortgage. Plus, I've signed up for a couple of classes and I need to pay up front. Then there's the computer parts I want...

I did get my name on the list for the radiology program at the local community college. They say the wait is 2+ years. I also have to go talk to someone at the UofA about getting into an education program there. I want to know what the requirements are, so I can be working on them and have everything ready by the time I start back full time in school with the radiology thing.

Today I started volunteering at the local food bank. It's kinda interesting, they give make up boxes of food to give out, quantities depending on the size of the family needing food. There was a lot to do, but the only person I could really help doesn't speak English, so I had to receive all instructions from another volunteer. She couldn't keep me busy though, because her main function, I think, was clerical. I kept busy for a few hours though; sorting bread and vegetables, making up boxes, and I did learn how to put someone into the computer. They track their handouts using Access, it's pretty basic and I had it down after a few times. I'll be back tomorrow as I've nothing better to do......
