I was looking at the other paper in town, the Citizen, reading the opinion section. There was a letter to the editor from a guy in the Air Force, retired actually.

Pima Fair needs a military night

As a Vietnam veteran and retired military member, I was very disappointed in seeing no military night at the Pima County Fair. I found this a slap in the face to all military personnel stationed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.

If the fair does not have a military night next year, I will not attend, and I hope other Tucson members of the military won't either. We don't put our lives on the line for nothing.

This guy is upset because they didn't have a 'military night'. He is a typical American. He believes that one good deed should set him right for the rest of his life, and because he served in the military the country should support his every endeavor for the rest of his life. There are so many people use the 'military discount' gimmick to boost their image that people now expect it, and this guy thinks there is something wrong when the county isn't honoring his very existence. People like this really piss me off. Sure, military service is a sacrifice, and a pat on the back I guess is warranted every once in a while, but that is about it. For some, it's as if they expect everyone to bow before them as if they were the fucking Roman Emperor whenever they walk down the street.

This guy doesn't even realize it, but he has the very mentality that he was opposing in the military... Socialism. He believes the government owes him at least a discount to the fair. This is typical socialistic thinking, because that is how that system is supposed to work, everyone works for the government, and the government provides all the necessities in life. He believes he deserves a government handout because he retired from government service. To me it is just fucking amazing. The guy is retired, so he's got his pension, and even if he did 30 years he was still young enough to find some kind of employment beyond that, which in my opinion is more than adequate. This guy wants fucking luxury, he's fucking demanding it!! Imagine what this country would be like if everyone believed being self sufficient was a responsibility as a citizen.
