Doing research for my next English paper, a research paper. Got sidetracked when I found a blog that talks about walmart, but also talks about the whole Gannon thing. Would you believe Gannon has a website where he asks for donations?! There as well he talks about how he can't talk about certain aspects of his personal life because his lawyers told him not to. What kind of lawyer would give this guy advice? And if he can afford a lawyer's advice, why does he need donations? This guy is fishy bigtime.....
There is also mention about bloggers getting lots of attention from the media. Some are complaining that news organizations are using info dug up by bloggers. John Stewart devoted most of a recent show to the shit. To me, it's a natural evolution of coverage with integrity. Used to be, waaaaaay back in the day.... actually it wasn't so long ago, less than 50 years, that journalist organizations were just about that, journalism. Now, everyone's got an agenda and somebody to praise, bash, or ignore based on some ideological concept. Journalism went from honest reporting, which didn't bring in much capital, to watching the bottom line, which some saw as a way to make money, so they did. All of a sudden, something other than a 'free speech' is driving journalistic goals and careers. From there, after amassing fortunes, they went to promoting this or that agenda. Sometimes covertly, sometimes brazenly open, as in the case of Clear Channel and their refusing to air some 'controversial' stuff.
So, the public is starved for 'honest journalism', a void which was filled with the advent of radio and television, but has surfaced again. Enter the bloggers, some who use the inexpensive tools technology has provided by way of the Internet to flush out some of the real truths behind the 'stories' of 'respected' journalistic empires. It just proves again that in order to have integrity in journalism you need investigative reporters unhindered by biased resources.
