I'm headed to school today, late in the morning on the motorcycle cause it's warm, and I'm at the light just after I exit the freeway. A car pulls up next to me and the driver accosts me. I look over, and it's two army dudes, the driver is a SSgt, so they are obviously recruiters. I have my helmet on, so they have made some erroneous assumptions.
"Ever thought about the military?" he says to me, with a beaming smile. I laughed at him, I hope I didn't hurt his feelings too much. Ever the salesman though, he was not deterred, and kept his eyes fixed on me, waiting for a more acceptable response I presumed. So, I gave him another, but I doubt it was acceptable...
"Why yes I have, about two years ago, as a matter of fact". He looks kinda surprised combined with a glint of hope, and asks me to explain.
"That was when I retired."
"How long were you in?"
"Little over 20." I tell him, thinking that would be the end of it. Not no, but hell no!!! He starts in about how the reserves can help pay for school along with the GI bill. But, the light turned green and I took off. At the next light, which was red, forcing me to stop, he pulls up along side and offers me his card. I took it and told him I would give it to my son. Further down the road they turned around and headed back toward the freeway.
