A friend of mine called last night, haven't talked to him in a while. Lives in Atlanta, Georgia - not sure how he puts up with the cold weather. Anyway, we talked for a while, got on the subject of the economy and politics. Not sure how that happened, but we were on the phone for quite a while. I think he'd been drinking, cause he's not one to stay on the phone a long time, never had the attention span for it. Still, he's pretty intelligent when you get him thinking, and he was thinking up a storm last night.

He told me about this website, fairtax.org. They are trying to push a tax reform bill through congress that's pretty radical. They want to do away with all taxes and institute a federal sales tax. It looks good for the most part, on paper. They don't take into account people's attitudes about material things and spending money though. Furthermore, change is always good, but to get the whole country to make such a big change would wreak havoc on people's psyche's, which would further adversly affect the economy in the minds of economists anyway. I of course have a lot more to say about it all, but no time right now to talk about it....
