My wife is a nurse working in the ER at her hospital. One of her coworkers is an atheist Arab woman. Not that being atheist has anything to do with the story... it's kinda like when you read a news article, and they talk about a person who's something other than white, and actually state the fact. It usually has nothing to do with the story, but you see it all the time, "(So-and so, a black board member, today said....") Ok, back to the story. This Arab woman (being Arab has everything to do with the story, btw) was taking care of a patient, and the patient asked about her heritage, guessing at Philippino, among other things. When informed of her Middle Eastern descent, the patient exclaimed, "But you're pretty!!"

Truly an indication of the spin we have to put up with while trying to assimilate information from around the world. This person obviously has the idea that Arab people are all ugly. Where would an American get such an idea? I think it's an indication as well of how people fail to exercise their freedom of speech. One aspect of Democracy is liberal information exchange. This episode clearly indicates the mild subterfuge going on in the process of feeding this and other individuals information.

This conversation came up after watching the latest Daily Show I downloaded last night. In it Jon Stewart ridicules the Republican that has chosen (was chosen?) to run against the O'Bama guy in Illinois. This Keyes guy (they had a video clip, of course) rides Hillary's ass about running for Congress in a State in which she doesn't reside. How can this guy expect anyone to vote for his ass if everyone remembers what he said about Clinton? That's just it, they don't expect people to remember. They don't expect people to care!! They expect people to lie dormant, ignorant of the nuances of the political arena.

Shit!!! Where the hell did that stuff come from?!
