Stephen King on writing, "If you work out with weights for 15 minutes a day over a course of ten years, you're gonna get muscles. If you write for an hour and a half a day for ten years, you're gonna turn into a good writer."
Does that mean it takes 10 years?
Anyway, we were at dinner last night with friends of ours, another couple. She used to work in some type of entertainment venue, and had the chance to meet some celebrities. She told us about a couple of incidents; one with Robin Williams, one with Jeff Foxworthy, one with Bill Cosby.
Robin Williams did two shows on two separate nights. Both times he came in at the last minute, performed his dialogue, and left without saying a word to any of the staff. "Don't get me wrong, he was hilarious. But both nights he did the exact same thing, performed the exact same dialogue."
Jeff Foxworthy was a little more personable. He invited some people into a reception he had going on, and just before he went on stage he took some of the younger crowd aside and regaled them with some jokes that might not be suitable for some of the older crowd. "If your idea of safe sex is to hogtie your woman before you fuck her up the ass, you might be a redneck."
Bill Cosby called ahead and demanded he be waited on only by 'people of a minority persuasion', as she called it. She had to hire some people specifically for those tasks that would take them into direct contact with him. She said she was lucky she had a well spoken friend who was willing to find others to help them out. I was thinking that would be the end of my job, cause I would have refused emphatically. People of all races scream wildly when a white person does shit like that. Haven't heard from Jimmy the Greek since he voiced his opinion that black people are better athletes, and the reason why.
So much for that. My wife and I watched a movie yesterday, House of Sand and Fog. The characters were just a little hard to believe, and neither of us thought it was done well. They actions just didn't seem to fit the characters. I think we are supposed to sympathize with the deputy, and believe he is a good guy, but he does some really stupid stuff for a good guy. Evil stuff. The movie just didn't click. It was nominated for major awards and won minor awards too.
