So I finished Lost Christianities and breezed through Ann Coulter's Slander. I can't believe I haven't said anything about it. I meant to, but got to rambling about other things too much. Now it's been a few days and I've tried to keep from being lazy. I have a mediocre plan for landscaping in the back yard and I'm in the middle of that. We've planted some trees near the far corner for shade out there, and I'm attempting a walkway leading out there to patio type sitting area. The only thing I know for sure is I want an area under the trees for a bench or table that will provide some shade from the afternoon summer sun.

Back to books. Right away in Slander Ann says this...

"POLITICAL "debate" in this country is insufferable. Whether conducted in Congress, on the political talk shows, or played out at dinners and cocktail parties, politics is a nasty sport. At the risk of giving away the ending: It's all liberals' fault." The very first sentence of chapter one!

Huh?! Basically she says all the 'debate' in the country is controlled by Democratic liberals. I listened to the rest of the chapter, but I almost gave up after that. Then she mentions some activist lady I've never heard of, one Phyllis Schlafly. I looked her up and I've learned something, so that got me through the rest of the book, hoping I'd get another tidbit of knowledge I didn't know before.

Anyway, the second line in the book goes like this....

"As there is less to dispute, liberals have become more bitter and angry. The Soviet threat has been vaporized, women are not prevented from doing even things they should be, and the gravest danger facing most black Americans today is the risk of being patronized to death."

That line ticked me off. She obviously didn't watch the 60 Minutes episode that looked at this very notion. They brought in two guys that were exactly alike in every respect. Both had college educations in the same area, same age, same background... they even looked similar. Except for the fact that one was white and the other black. They put them into situations like interviewing for jobs, getting a motel room, stuff like that. It is amazing how people react to others when they don't think nobody else is watching. It was obvious people aren't even aware they do most times, but it's quite evident to the 'fly on the wall'. The black guy was treated worse even by other blacks and minorities!

I know how they feel. Since I've left the military I tend to walk around like 'white trash'. I wear jeans with holes (my wife likes them), always look unshaven cause I just trim the hair on my face and rarely shave it off, and generally have an extremely laid back appearance. People that go to great lengths to make themselves 'presentable' have a tendency to look down their noses at me, or seem not to see me at all. I used to joke about being white trash with people I worked with in the military. I'm not really. I would say I'm cluttered but clean. I'm sure the neighbors look at my garage when the door is open and hold it in contempt. It's not the neatest by any stretch of the imagination. See, the street we live on consists mostly of people that actually use their garages for what they are intended. They keep their vehicles there! What a concept, aye? Moreover, they tend to keep them empty otherwise. So here on our street all the driveways remain clear for the most part, except ours. We have a two car garage, but 2 cars, a small SUV and to motorcycles. It's not uncommon to drive by our house and see the Escort, Jeep and my Honda in the driveway. I'm sure some of the neighbors are disgusted with the place.....

Back to the book. I made it through the rest of the book however, like I said. I didn't know 'liberals' had such control over the media!!! Yeah, ok. Sure, whatever you say Ann. NEITHER party or 'ideal' has the right to point fingers. What gets me is that she can say this, and in the same book say there are few 'liberal' talkers out there because people don't want to hear them. 'Liberal' commentators have tried for mainstream radio and television, but they don't last long because nobody wants to hear them. This is her assertion. I don't understand how this can be so, if 'liberal' media moguls have control of every distraction we have access to that comes through air or over wire.

So, where is the hard investigative reporting? That would be nice, someone to put out a book that documents hard facts about the corruption and 'lies' they bash each other about.

While looking stuff up on the Internet I found an interesting site. Janeane Garofalo was on Leno, and she mentioned a radio show she does. So, I looked it up. Air America Radio. They are only in a few places, definitely not nationwide, but they have a website, www.airamericaradio.com. They have a way to listen to them over the Internet, and of course I checked it out. Talk about extreme commentary! Every other commercial touts the 'right to choose'. I got sick of hearing about that real fast. It may have something to do with the march they did in DC over the weekend, going on today as a matter of fact.
